Ready. Set. GoHealth.
Are you geared up for another enrollment period for health insurance? You’ve stretched, you’ve done jumping jacks, maybe you even ran a few laps, but are you equipped with the best tools to choose the perfect health insurance plan for you?
I don’t know about you, but shopping for health insurance is not the kind of shopping I typically get all giddy about. Health insurance can be confusing. Where do you start? Who should you contact? What are the best options? How can you keep the awesome new doctor you just started seeing? Is there any way to get a lower deductible? How do you know if a plan will cover your monthly medications?
Does this sound like you, or maybe someone you know? I’m sorry if I made your head spin, but luckily there are options to help. We are coming up on another enrollment period, November 1 through January 31, or maybe you’ve had a recent change in your life that allows you to enroll during a special enrollment period. Either way, GoHealth is a great solution to make shopping for health insurance easier to navigate and find the plan that best fits your needs.
What is GoHealth?
GoHealth is an insurance exchange information provider. Basically, it is a website where you can shop for insurance, compare plan details and prices, estimate your tax subsidy, enroll in a plan online, and have access to licensed advisors to help with any questions you might have.
“That sounds like healthcare.gov” you may say. Sure, they are both places to shop for and compare plans, but GoHealth is much easier to use, has more filtering options and tools to guide you to the best plan for your needs, and may actually provide you with a few dozen more plan options. When I searched on GoHealth I got 109 plan results, but when I put the same criteria into healthcare.gov I only had 74. I’ll take the 30 extra options!
How do I get started?
- Go to www.gohealth.com
- Fill out some basic information. Takes less than two minutes!
- Get an estimated monthly cost savings and a number of plan suggestions based on the information you entered. You can further filter the options or use the Choose tool.
The Help Me Choose tool.
Help Me Choose is a tool on GoHealth that provides you with the best plans based on your needs and what you are looking for in coverage by asking you to complete a short questionnaire. I like this tool! Helps you quickly filter out the plans that just won’t work for you. It starts by asking what is most important to you when it comes to coverage: lower premium, best value, or better coverage. You are then asked additional questions to find out a plan for doctor visit frequency and how you prefer care to be coordinated; you can search for providers to make sure you are only shown plans that will allow you to keep seeing your favorite doctor; you can identify additional benefits that may be important to you (HSA, dental, vision, prescription coverage); and search by current prescriptions to ensure they will be covered by the suggested plans. If needed, you can further filter the options.
So, what are the filtering options?
Filter by deductible, copayment, max-out-of-pocket, plan type, plan categories, monthly premium tax credit eligible, pediatric dental, and HSA eligible.
What type of insurance does GoHealth offer?
Individual, family, short-term, dental, and self-employed health insurance.
Who are the carriers?
There are over 75 carriers across the country, but in Michigan there are 5: Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Consumers Mutual Insurance of Michigan, Priority Health, and UnitedHealthcare Life Insurance Company.
Whether you’re just window shopping or need health insurance coverage, check out GoHealth. It doesn’t hurt to see if you can save some money or find a plan that can offer better coverage options for you or your family.
